This past summer I took a 3-week long trip to Italy. I went from top to bottom doing every thing, visiting family to shopping at D&G. It was amazing.
I started out in Rome. We had a tour guide to take us to places we would have never seen. The Trevi Fountain, and Colosseum, Cesar’s Palace (the ruins not the casino) and so much more. In Rome there is not much shopping but there is a lot of style. Italians each have their own style they don’t follow “trends” but arrange them to fit their style. Its cool to look around and see one woman with a maxi dress and than turn another way and see another woman with a maxi dress in a totally different style.
Next stop was Flourence where we spent a week with my relatives, who don’t speak any english what so ever, and with my dad being the only bilingual one in the house it didn’t make stuff easy. Which is why now I am taking Italian lessons. Floourence had its own different style from Rome, still the same rules rearrange a trend to fit your style, but in Flourence it was more boho-ish than high style. But all still extremely cute. I got a lot of non-coutureish stuff there like handmade scarfs and a chic straw hat.
The Next stop was a surprise for me, it wasn’t on the list of places we were going to go. It was Milan!! Now in Milan was at the time the only Juicy Couture store in Europe. So it was kinda a big deal, and lets just say I got some stuff that didn’t all quite fit into my suitcase. But i got it all home so it was all okay. Milan is the place I saw all the extremely high fashion. In Milan everyone followed trends. I counted about 73 Louis Vuitton Bowler Bags, and everyone wore black and white, very classic and chic. I would go back there any second if i could.
While we were in Milan we took a day trip up to Lake Como, its kinda like the Hamptons of Milan. The town was an extreme resort town but it was very nice. The one thing i didn’t like about it was the sorry excuse of a beach we went to, it was gated in and had rocks and pebbles for sand. The place you go into the water was concrete and about 4 feet wide, it was a pretty sad excuse for a “beach”
Next we went to Naples at the bottom tip of Italy. The style there let me just say... um... sucked. it wasn’t the richest town or the nicest. Really the only good things there were the food and the view from my hotel window, it was looking over the Mediteranian Sea and Mt. Vesuves, it was amazing. The entire time we were there i was on the rooftop pool overlooking the ocean and volcano.
Next stop, was Milazzo, Sicily. This was one of my favorite places because it was like Italy and Greece mixed together just like me ( I am Italian and Greek) Sicily is also where a relative of mine speaks english yes english finally I can talk to some one other than my parents! Sicily was really fun. We went up to Novara where my grandparents are from it was really pretty and extremely high in the moutains. The style is Sicily was very... unique. It was a mix of all the styles i saw earlier in the trip. There were some boho-ish some high fashion and some a little bit bummy. But it was all so pretty.
Italy is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in my life and one of the most stylish of corse.
So if you ever have a chance to go to Italy i would put Milan on your list forsure if you want good shopping.
